DUSHANBE, 20 September 2021 – In the Sughd region, on the territory of a natural complex among the seven lakes of Haftkul, an international running race on mountain roads was held with CAG’s charity partner, TJK Run Club with the goal of contribution to the social wellbeing in Tajikistan.
The athletes from Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine took part in the half marathon.
More than 60 athletes from Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Ukraine took part in the almost 22-kilometer race. It was quoted by a journalist from Penjikent Khurshed Fozilov said, “The route passed along a mountain road, and it was not easy for the athletes to overcome obstacles and climb to the top”.
Dilshod Nazarov, the champion of the 2018 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, spoke at the opening of the competition. Athlete Samariddin Azimov was the first to finish, covering the distance in 1.5 hours. The second and third places were taken by Mehrubon Shamsiddinov and Azamjon Davlatov. Among the women, the first was Makhina Barotova, who overcame the mountainous terrain in 2 hours and 22 minutes.
The winners of the first place received $ 500 each, the second – $ 300, and another $ 200 went to those who finished third.
It is noted that all other participants in the half marathon received letters of thanks and mementos from the city administration of Penjikent.
Recall that the half marathon is timed to the 30th anniversary of the country’s independence and was organized with the assistance of the committees for tourism, as well as for youth and sports of Penjikent and the Athletics Federation of Tajikistan.
