CAG (Kazakhstan) and Ufuk Tarim (Turkey) will jointly work to optimise the fertilizer value chain in Central Asia and beyond

14 September 2018, Almaty, Kazakhstan – CAG Partner, Mr. Abdulla Jabrailov, has welcomed Dr. Halim Aydin, Chairman of the Board of Ufuk Tarim Ltd, in Almaty city on 14th of September 2018, and discussed the issue of optimizing the fertilizer provision and value chain creation in Central Asia.

The fertilizer industry has a crucial role to play in addressing global food security challenges, as the world’s population continues to expand rapidly, driving demand for nutrition and resource availability.

United Nations have food security at the very highest level of their agenda, next to energy security, as they go hand in hand, particularly at the fertilizer level.

Global agricultural production will need to more than double by 2050 in order to meet growing demand for food. The industry urged to be ready for the tremendous population growth and a challenge lies ahead to ensure availability of enough food for the 10-12 billion people that will be living on this planet in the next 30-40 years.

Without fertilizers more than half of current food production would be compromised, which highlights the industry’s irreplaceable role in providing nutrition to billions of people on the planet. Fertilizers, if correctly used, can significantly protect and enhance a nation’s soil resources. This is particularly important for Central Asia region.

Based on above, CAG Kazakhstan invited Dr. Halim Aydin, who regularly presents his ideas and projects on above-mentioned subjects to Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey and often gives interviews to various magazines and newspapers and participates to TV programs for catch-up works on presenting Turkey’s natural seeds to food tourism and global agriculture.

CAG and Ufuk Tarim will jointly work to optimise the fertilizer value chain in Central Asia region to provide customised fertilizers at affordable prices to farmers. A value chain with targeted agronomic initiatives will provide appropriate inputs to farmers and support them with adequate product development along with new product line expansion. In addition, it will further use the introduction of fertilizer blending to allow the production of customised mineral fertilizers that will meet soil- and crop-specific nutrient requirements.

As agreed, CAG will facilitate with respective networks, human capital and management skills establishment of sustainable distribution networks in new fertilizer markets.

The next starting pointis the conducting of preliminary studies to assess the feasibility pro and cons of implementing the above-mentioned opportunities. If successful, these initiatives are expected to create jobs, reduce the price of fertilizer, and significantly increase fertilizer consumption by Central Asia farmers.
