The restoration of the nurek hydroelectric power station has moved to the second phase: Tajikistan has found the first partner to finance the project

DUSHANBE, Jun 29 – Sputnik. The World Bank Board of Directors approved an additional grant funding in the amount of US $ 50 million for the Nurek hydropower plant, reports the press service of the bank.

According to the head of the WB Permanent Mission in Tajikistan, Jan-Peter Olters, such an investment during the pandemic will create new jobs and income for the population of the republic, as well as help restore the country in the post-crisis period.

New turbines and generators will increase the capacity of the Sarband hydroelectric station. In the second phase, it is planned to overhaul the remaining six hydraulic units, restore the Nurek road bridge, and repair the building of the hydroelectric power station.
The total cost of the second phase for the restoration of the Nurek hydroelectric station is $ 192 million. Over 130 villages to be electrified in Tajikistan.
